David James

Tuesday June 2, 2020, David Paul James unexpectedly passed away due to complications of a heart condition.
David was born December 13, 1954 in Freeport, IL to George and Lola (Stengel) James. He graduated Mt Morris IL high school class of 1973 and Highland Community College Freeport IL class of 1977.
David married Susanne Poulson in Loves Park, IL. They moved to Los Angeles CA County where they had and raised two beautiful children, Daniel and Janell. Over the years, David worked as a funeral director, a bus driver for Durham School and a bus driver for the city of Los Angeles. David had a handyman business and was a care giver for friends during his later years.
David’s passion for the Lord was evident as was his devotion to his church and church family at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in North Hollywood CA. He was an integral part of the church including his dedication to the NoHo Home Alliance Drop-in Program for the local homeless population, held positions such as treasurer, and singing as a tenor in the choir. David’s love of cooking prompted him to be at the church every Wednesday morning to start preparing and cooking the meals for the homeless population that came to the church. David helped build homes through Lutheran Border Ministries in Tijuana Mexico. Another big part of his life was his interest in geneoloy.
David was proceeded in death by his father, George and his mother, Lola. He is survived by his son Daniel (Bonnie) James and daughter Janell James, both of California and near and dear to his heart. Also survived by sisters, Janet Lawson and Louise James both of Illinois. Nieces Mykil Hardesty (Scott Keilin) and Rebecca Lawson of Illinois, nephew John (Mary) Lawson of California, great nephew Caid Chenowith and great nieces Samantha Lawson and Rylee Keilin, all of Illinois. Also, many cousins, friends, and best friend Mike Czerwonka.
A memorial service was held at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church June 20, 2020. Per David’s wishes, he was cremated, and his remains will rest at West Grove Cemetery in Forreston IL in the Stengel family plot.
