Edward Johnson

May 5, 1960 — March 10, 2020

Edward Brian Johnson was born May 5th , 1960 to Ronald & Mary Johnson, in Chicago Illinois. He passed from this world on March 10th , 2020 in Los Angeles, California. Edward is survived by his beloved Lynette Meyer; two sons whom he adored, Sam & Jake; his loving Mother Mary, and six siblings. Robert (Mary), Patricia (Wesley), Victoria, Karen (Terry), Leslie and Steven, a beautiful extended family and wide circle of friends. He was preceded in death by his Father Ronald. His loved ones, family & friends alike, find solace that he left us in such a peaceful way, and that he had lived life so happily and with so much contentment.
Ed went to Mayo High School in Rochester Minnesota. Upon graduating in 1978 he made his way to art school in Mankato and eventually attended the Minneapolis College of Art & Design as well. For many years he lived in Minneapolis and also lived in California, both in the Bay Area and L.A. Ed worked in some great restaurants in Minneapolis until he began his own business as a painter. He was a lifelong artist, working mainly in ink as an illustrator and cartoonist; transferring some of his drawings into a collection of silk screened tees, Edward’s work was appreciated and collected by many over the years.
“Jed” was a devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, traveling around the country and taking in hundreds of shows. He was always known as one to be quick to dance, and laugh, and share his creativity, kindness, wisdom, and great cooking especially barbecue. He had a vast family of friends spanning many circles in life; Ed’s spirit sparked many interested in music, art, good food, and recovery. At the time of his death Ed had recently celebrated thirteen years of living “happy, joyous and free”.
Information on Service
Edward’s family would love to have a gathering to celebrate his life around the date that would have been his 60th Birthday. He was a big fan of attending the May Day parade and festival in Minneapolis and would often celebrate his birthday with a Kentucky Derby party. In the context of the public health crisis that we all share, we are uncertain whether we can hold a gathering on that first weekend in May…but we hope it is possible. We will keep you posted on the place and time as we know more. Until then, help us hold his memory in your heart and feel free to share some of those memories with us here or on Ed’s facebook page.
