Carolyn Martone

Carolyn Julia Martone, 44, died [DAY] in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. Ms. Martone was born and raised in Albany. She attended the Academy of Holy Names (K-12), Fordham University (B.A.) and SUNY New Paltz (M.A.T. English). She was a dedicated writer, teacher, actress, and comedian. A recipient of several writing awards and residency scholarships, Ms. Martone was a memoirist, essayist, blogger, and scriptwriter. She performed at many venues for a diverse variety of entertainment groups and organizations, including The Punchline, Stand-Up New York, Gotham Comedy Club, Comic Strip Live, Mortified, and Comic Dish Survivors. She was the director of “Radner Players,” which began as “Live from the Heldebergs,” an adolescent comedy troupe founded in honor of her favorite comedian and role model, Gilda Radner. Ms. Martone taught at Academy of the Holy Names, the Harvey Milk School (NYC), the Cathedral Chapel School (L.A.) and Maria College, where she was creative and highly valued by both students and parents. Survivors include her devoted father, Lawrence Martone of Albany, her three brothers, Paul Martone of Portland, Oregon, Joe Martone and John Martone (both of Providence, Rhode Island), her uncle, Raymond Martone of Albany, her aunt, Joan Duffy of Covina, California, and many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving mother, Sandra Monaco Martone. Services will be held in Albany NY on Monday and Tuesday, May 15-16.
